Since December 2023, the annual national accounts changed their calculation metodology to a Moving Base, chained to the reference year 2018, The quarterly growth rates correspond to chained and seasonally adjusted indices.

The published data of the Monthly Economic Activity Indicator of Ecuador (IMAEc) are presented in both original and seasonally adjusted series, compiled under the same methodology as the National Accounts, using a chain-linked volume framework with mobile base and reference year 2018 = 100. The IMAEc constitutes the high-frequency estimate within the National Accounts System and is designed to provide timely and forward-looking monitoring of the evolution of economic activity.

In accordance with article 137 of the Fundamental Monetary and Financial Code (Official Record N° 332 – Friday September 12, 2014), the Free Liquidity International Reserve becomes known as International Reserve. By resolution 076-2015-M, of May 28, 2015, the Monetary and Financial Policy and Regulation Board issues the Standard to establish the methodology for calculating international reserves. As of January 1st, 2021, by resolution 635-2020-M, of December 29th, 2020, the Monetary and Financial Policy and Regulation Board issues a new standard to establish the methodology for calculating International Reserves. By resolution JPRM-2022-008-M, of February 23, 2022, the Monetary Policy and Regulation Board issues a new rule to establish the methodology for calculating International Reserves, as of February 23, 2022.

From 2020 to May 2021, the ENEMDU implemented methodological changes associated with the size and distribution of the sample, the level of representativeness of the estimators and the construction of weighting factors, affecting the historical comparability of the official statistics. Faced with this problem, it was decided for INEC to maintain the traditional sample design scheme, standardizing the calculation of weighting factors at the Primary Sampling Unit level and recalculating the indicators from September 2020 to May 2021, in order to maintain the comparability of the figures.
